Tuscan Art Holiday In Retrospect

It started as  a dream and ended as a dream come true!

The Tuscan Art Holiday…

The Warwick Atelier paints in Tuscany…

This past September (2011) a group of  9 artists from Warwick spent 10 days painting the magnificent landscapes of  Tuscany. The idea for the trip came from one my students attending the Atelier, who shared her dream of painting in Tuscany with her fellow painters.

…the idea caught on and everyone made it happen.

We stayed on a farm, part of agriturismo that is popular throughout Tuscany. Our typical day started at 6 AM and we were out in the fields of the farm by 7AM. We painted till 9, then had an amazing gourmet breakfast that included homemade croissants, farm fresh eggs, yogurt, fruit, cheeses, meats, home made jams, and a fresh baked cake. Each day after breakfast, we left the farm to explore a nearby village to paint /shop/eat and tour for the afternoon which sometimes lasted into the evening. We spent a full day in Florence..another in Siena. Some of the smaller towns we visited were Pienza, Radicofani, Montepulciano, San Angelo de Colle and Bagno Vignone.

Mother nature cooperated by providing beautiful weather each day as well as amazing sunsets and fantastic atmospheric effects to enrich our painting experience even further.

The constant viewing of  breathtaking vistas coupled with the most delicious foods shared with a group who had already created a fun, working dynamic made this a most idyllic trip!

It was as if we were living inside that dream….each day we had the opportunity to explore our passions for painting, creativity, friendship, learning, exploring while indulging our other senses! Just the mention of Italy still moves us all back to our joy filled memories of this very rich experience.

As the instructor for the group, I was delighted with the devotion to their craft…they only wanted more painting time! The resulting paintings speak of the connection these painters felt for the land they were painting. I do hope you will come out to see the student exhibition of paintings from the Tuscan Art Holiday for the month of March at The Albert Wisner Library.
