Chinese calligraphy is considered by many the highest form of art. In calligraphy, as in painting, the quality of the line is of paramount importance. A line has to have interest through natural bumps, curves and variations. Straight lines are not absolutely straight but have character. The biology, breath, and nervous system of the artist must show through in every stroke of the brush. The resulting characters appear to be "alive" with spirit and energy (Qi). | ||||||
